This photo of a 1950 oldsmobile was taken in the 1960s. It belonged to my grandfather.

The little boy in the photo is my dad.

The car was sold a year later. We found this similar car a few years ago and bought it.

We decided to do not a typical restoration, but more of a "preservation" of many of it's features. The body was clear-coated with modern paint on top of the original paint. We wet-sanded it then clear coated it to make sure it will last. The mechanicals were refurbished but we put all new brakes and other safety features. The engine vapor locked on it when hot because today's fuels contain volatiles that flash off quickly. We modernized the fuel system a little by putting an electric fuel pump back at the tank to keep the system under pressure and prevent boiling.

The electrival system was upgraded from 6volt to 12 volt. We also added modern electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump.

My grandfather still had the trophies from that original picture so I cut out a plexiglass display stand for them that fits in the trunk of the car.

We had to really cram to get this done before we delivered it. We worked all day and late into the night many days to get it done in time for our trip to Colorado to deliver to my Grandfather.

Here he is with the "new" car.
